One of our favorite instances of this happened in the spring of 2014, when College HUNKS team member and student Cesar Larios was assisting a senior-citizen customer with their move, and the elevator got stuck. When the customer began to worry about standing for so long while they were being rescued, Cesar dropped to his hands and knees to turn himself into a human bench so the customer could rest. College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving® started in 2003. Omar Soliman and Nick Friedman started the College HUNKS business as a way to make money during their summers in college after discovering a massive untapped market for junk hauling and moving services.
After posting some business fliers, the jobs started rolling in. The business took off, and Nick and Omar saw the fruits of their labor in the form of $8,000 for the summer alone. In the fall, Omar and Nick went their separate ways back to school to finish their senior years.
The two discovered The University of Miami’s annual Rothschild Entrepreneurship Competition, which awarded a $10,000 prize to the best business plan and $500-$5,000 for honorable mentions. After realizing their vision to build a fully branded, systematized operation to serve customers, Omar and Nick quickly compiled a business plan and submitted it.
The duo knew it was fate when College HUNKS had been selected as one of 20 finalists. Omar gave a presentation to a group of alumni judges consisting of business owners from all over the country and ultimately won the first-prize check for $10,000.
Nick and Omar graduated from college and gave traditional office jobs a chance. Quickly sensing unfulfillment from those jobs, they decided to pursue the business in earnest in 2005, and within two years, they were generating seven-figure revenue.
Upon deciding it was time to grow the company, the pair created the necessary systems designed to duplicate their success. We began offering franchise opportunities in 2006.
