Putting a new spin on a proven business
Business success isn’t always about finding or creating something completely new. Sometimes, it’s just about taking a proven business, and doing it better than it’s ever been done before. Once you’ve identified a market that needs to be shaken up, you then have to decide how you’re going to shake it up. Junk removal and moving are necessities, and that led to the industry treating customers as a captive audience. Quality of service fell by the wayside, but that left an opportunity for the right player to take market share through superior service. That’s what we set out to do.
“It’s a multi-billion dollar industry, and what we’ve always tried to do is figure out how can we be different. With a name like College Hunks, that’s one way to stand out,” says Friedman. “But we also have to back that up with the service experience.”

A major part of our success has come from the fact that we never stop improving. Every day, we look for ways to push ourselves harder than the day before. That came from building a culture of leadership at every level of our organization. “When we first started, our vision was to be a national brand. That’s what we pictured in our minds,” says Friedman. “We didn’t know how to do it, but we knew that was what we could envision this business becoming.”
