The story

FROM A CARGO VAN TO A NATIONAL BRAND.

Two college friends, one truck, and an idea that the moving industry could be better. Here’s how it became a system.

College HUNKS started in 2003 when co-founders Nick Friedman and Omar Soliman borrowed a cargo van and hauled junk to cover their college bills. The side gig outgrew the van fast. Two years in, they had the bones of a franchise system, built around a blunt observation: people dread hiring movers, so be the mover nobody dreads.

TWO REVENUE STREAMS, ONE PLAYBOOK

Every College HUNKS franchise sells two services out of the same location: junk removal and local moving. Junk jobs run year-round on cleanouts, downsizing, and estate work. Moving jobs concentrate in the spring and summer relocation season. One service props up the other, which is exactly the cushion single-service operators are missing.

Same territory, same office, same booking software. Each concept runs its own truck, so the second service line adds a vehicle rather than a second business.

Why the brand wins against independents

  • National brand recognition and a consumer-facing marketing engine that independents can’t match.
  • Proprietary CRM and dispatch software that routes incoming jobs, schedules crews, and tracks every dollar.
  • A call center that books jobs for you, so your team is on the truck, not on the phone.
  • Ongoing coaching, peer groups, and performance benchmarks from the corporate team in Tampa.

CULTURE IS THE COMPETITIVE MOAT

H.U.N.K.S. stands for Honest, Uniformed, Nice, Knowledgeable, Service, and inside the business it works as a hiring filter first. Hire to it, train to it, and the reviews tend to follow. Franchisees who take the culture seriously post stronger NPS scores, keep crews longer, and pick up more referral work than the ones who treat it as wall art.

“The brand gave us a system. The culture gave us a team that actually wants to show up.”

The franchise development team is stacked with people who have actually run locations. They know month-two panic firsthand, and the onboarding path exists specifically to carry new owners past it.

Three differentiators

WHAT SEPARATES HUNKS FROM EVERY OTHER BRAND.

01

Dual revenue streams

Junk removal and local moving out of one location, across one territory. Two ways to earn from day one.

02

AI-resistant services

Nobody’s automating a couch down three flights of stairs. This work needs strong people on-site, and it will for a long time.

03

Culture as a system

H.U.N.K.S. works as a hiring filter and a training framework. Franchisees who run on it tend to lead their markets in reviews.

Next step

Twenty minutes is all it takes.

Book a call with the franchise development team. You’ll cover the model, see which territories are open, and walk through unit economics for your specific market.

Locker Room

Common questions answered.

No. Most owners arrive from completely different industries. The system assumes you’re an operator rather than a mover: your crew handles the trucks while you build the business, with full training up front and coaching from Tampa HQ after you open.

Two revenue streams out of one operation, for a start. Most moving franchises sell a single service, while College HUNKS pairs local moving with junk removal, which gives you year-round demand and a more balanced revenue mix. Layer the H.U.N.K.S. culture system on top and you get review scores competitors have a hard time matching.

Typically 110 to 140 days from signing the franchise agreement. That window covers training, territory setup, your opening marketing push, and first hires, and the corporate team in Tampa walks the launch sequence with you step by step.

Yes. Qualifying veterans and first responders get a discount on the initial franchise fee, and College HUNKS recruits from the military community on purpose. Owners coming out of the service tend to click with the structured operations and the team-first culture.
